Media Release: Auto electrician drives on to national competition
Peiter Tenbrink will be presented with a gold medal today as TAFE New England and his employer celebrate his success at the WorldSkills regional auto electrician competition which was hosted at the Tamworth campus in October last year.
Peiter, who is employed by ARB Tamworth and was a first year apprentice in 2015, competed against his fellow students and was judged on a range of practical components including vehicle diagnosis, wiring diagrams and component testing.
Regional WorldSkills Coordinator Peter Coleman said he was impressed with the level of skills demonstrated by students participating in this year’s competition.
“WorldSkills provides students with a platform to test their skills, overcome nerves and to use their creativity.”
“As a nation we need to continue to strive for skills and excellence, celebrate achievements in the vocational education and training sector and work together to raise awareness of the opportunities that are available in a trade or skills based career” Mr Coleman added.
Peiter, who is currently undertaking the second year of his apprenticeship, has now received an invitation from WorldSkills Australia to attend the national competition which will be held in Melbourne in October this year.
Peiter’s employer, Phil Swindale, said “Peiter works hard for us, obviously works hard while he’s at TAFE and this award is recognition of his work ethic and great attitude towards his job”.
“Peiter is a big part of our company’s future and we’re very excited about that”, Mr Swindale said.
