Media Release - Gomeroi art exhibited at TAFE New England

The TAFE New England Aboriginal Learning Centre will be transformed into a gallery this week as the works of local Aboriginal artists are hung from the walls, at the Tamworth campus.

Adele Chapman-Burgess, Nicholas Levy and Jodie Herden will display their exhibition “For the love of culture and country” from Friday 26 August, which will be celebrated at an opening function this evening.

TAFE New England Acting Student Services Director, Shaun Allan, said “It is important for TAFE New England, as an educational provider, to ensure that we educate our students and community, about Aboriginal culture”

“As Aboriginal people, we use mediums like dance, storytelling and art to educate our children and people of other cultures and this exhibition is testament to this”.

The exhibition was founded on a conversation amongst the artists and their deep respect for their Gomeroi culture and a desire to engage the community, which they each intend to do with the assistance of Elders and the wider Aboriginal community.

Each artist will display a minimum of 15 works which will be available for sale throughout the exhibition which will close on 23 September.
