Students begin enrolled nursing career

Hospitals and care facilities throughout the New England and North West welcomed the news that 23 students have commenced studying the Diploma in Enrolled Nursing at the TAFE New England Gunnedah campus.

The intensive 18 month course combines block attendance using the state of the art facilities at the Gunnedah campus, online learning and 400 hours of clinical placement within local hospitals. The students will balance work, study and their personal lives to achieve their dream of becoming an enrolled nurse.

A feature of the facilities at the Gunnedah campus is an interactive mannequin referred to as “Sin Man”. Sin Man simulates life-like bodily functions, which allows students to practice clinical nursing skills in a supervised environment before they commence their work placement.

TAFE New England teacher of nursing and 2014 Teacher of the Year, Laurie Chaffey, was excited to welcome another large class to the campus “We pride ourselves on being able to deliver the best training in state of the art facilities to our students” Laurie said.

“Our well established health industry networks ensures that our students develop the skills and knowledge that are required by employers, and are job ready when they enter the workplace”, Laurie added.
