TREVOR ENCOURAGED BY ROTARY AWARD
TAFE NSW Early Childhood Education and Care student, Trevor French, was this week named the winner of the 2018 Tamworth Rotary Youth Encouragement Award.
Trevor was recognised for overcoming adversity and the dedication he demonstrated while studying at TAFE NSW, accepting a generous donation of $250 to put towards tools to help him in his chosen field.
While studying at TAFE NSW, Mr French experienced the tragic loss of his father and grandfather just a few months into his studies, while also getting married and becoming a father. Despite this, Mr French managed to continue work as a trainee childcare educator at the Rainbow Cottage Occasional Care Centre and successfully complete a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care at TAFE NSW Tamworth.
TAFE NSW Tamworth Early Childhood Education and Care Teacher, Jenne Hawkins, nominated Trevor for the award and commended him on his ability to overcome adversity.
“No matter what was thrown his way Trevor was able to continue his studies to a high standard and it was because of this dedication that he was rewarded with full-time permanent employment at Rainbow Cottage Occasional Care at the end of his course,” Ms Hawkins said
“Trevor was a motivated, persistent and keen learner which helped him grow his confidence and enabled him to develop into an excellent educator.”
A humble Mr French was excited to receive the award, saying “The support I received from Jenne (Hawkins), my Rainbow (Cottage Occasional Care) colleagues and my wife, Rekaya, kept me on track throughout my studies.
“I am very excited and shocked at the same time to receive this fantastic award and would like to thank the Rotary Club of Tamworth and TAFE NSW for their encouragement.
“I would recommend anyone going through similar experiences to not be afraid to reach out to those around you for help. There will always be someone at TAFE NSW to support you.”
Rotary Club of Tamworth Director, Steve Beaton, said this was an annual award presented to a TAFE NSW Tamworth student, who had excelled during their studies in difficult circumstances.
“Trevor is an admirable recipient of this award and we wish him the very best with his promising future,” he said.
