TAFE New England hosts Sausage King competition!

Butchers from throughout the New England and North West will travel to Tamworth on Friday to compete in the annual Sausage King Competition. The competitors will be cooking up a variety of sausages to tantalize the taste buds of judges in the commercial kitchens of the TAFE New England Tamworth campus.

 

The Australian Meat Industry Council event is one of many regional heats held throughout the state. Competitors will be judged on six different categories which include traditional beef, pork, lamb and poultry. The conventional sausage has come a long way over the years, and competitors will also be frying off continental and gourmet varieties to tempt the most discerning of judges.

 

Mick Newton from Mick’s Meat House in Tamworth will defend his best sausage and best pork sausage title from the 2014 competition. “I’ll be competing in each category again this year,” Mr Newton said.

 

“My customers come back to my butchery time and time again for the quality and taste of the sausages I produce. Hopefully the judges have the same good taste as my customers“, he said.

 

Butchers from as far as Tenterfield, Inverell and Boggabri will travel to Tamworth for the event and the winners of each category will travel to Port Macquarie for the state final on 12 September this year.
