All signs point to TAFE New England Auslan Course
TAFE New England has responded to calls from the community to
develop an Auslan course for delivery at the Tamworth campus. Further to the
article in the Northern Daily Leader on
Saturday 27 June, TAFE New England was inundated with enquiries on social media
for information regarding the course.
As of close of business on Friday 3 July, the first Basic
Auslan I course has reached enrolment capacity. TAFE New England has been quick
to respond to this demand and has developed a second course to meet this need
and so that community members don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn basic
sign language skills.
“We have been overwhelmed with the response to the
development of this course”, Student Services Director Cheryl Wilson said.
“This is a great example of the benefits of social media and
how TAFE New England continually strives to meet the needs of the community by
developing innovative courses”, Ms Wilson added.
The Basic Auslan I course will begin with finger spelling and
greetings signing and, depending on demand upon completion of this course, a
subsequent course will be developed for students to take the next step to
further their Auslan skills.
The second Auslan course will be held on Thursday evenings
from 23 July. To obtain further information or to enrol, members of the
community can contact Nicky Turner on 6768 2204, or by sending TAFE New England
a private message on Facebook with their contact details to receive course
information.
